3 Ways to be Scrappy and Successful
There’s nothing wrong with being scrappy. You are willing to work hard in order to succeed. You are determined to make your business more profitable. You have learned how to hang tight and stay positive through tough seasons.
You don't let fear rule your decision-making.
Here are 3 ways you can be BOTH scrappy and successful in your business.
1. Use what you have.
Have a limited budget? Start with what you do have! When we first started Marken, we used a spare room in our house as the office. Later after we got space outside our home, we found tons of great furniture on Facebook Marketplace.
Don’t feel like an expert in business? Spoiler alert. None of us do! Take time to learn more about the areas you struggle with the most. There are tons of great free resources for businesses in various industries available in Facebook groups, on YouTube, and podcasts.

2. Get help from those who love you.
Don’t be afraid to share your needs with friends and family. Your support network wants to help your business succeed, but they often don’t know how.
Looking for a space to rent for your business? I bet that your friends or family might know someone who can help! Just ask! Want them to pray for that big proposal you just sent out? Start a group text — and while you’re at it, ask them how you can help them!
3. Go for the big ask.
The worst thing they could say is, “No.”
That’s what I told myself when I approached Poly & Bark, a mid century furniture retailer, about sponsoring some items in our office/coworking space. We had just opened our commercial office in downtown Devine and had purchased several desks and chairs from P&B but needed some additional pieces to round out the space.
Because I simply asked if they wanted to collaborate with us and support our vision for bringing our services to an underserved market, they said yes. In addition to sending us beautiful rugs and a lamp, they also provided a limited-time discount code for those who asked about the furniture pieces.
Collaborations like that can’t happen unless you are scrappy, can articulate your vision clearly, and have the courage to go for the big ask.
Marcus and I help established small businesses make their original DIY marketing and brand level up to their current success and quality service. Your business and brand should look and feel as premium and personal on its first impression as it does to your best repeat customer.

Client Spotlight: Brush Country Real Estate
This project has been in the works, and we are so glad it's now LIVE!
The client's problem?
A local realtor approached us with the SERIOUS need to update their existing website. They had been manually updating their site to highlight the company's listings. In addition to their website being a constant frustration, entering data manually was taking WAY TOO MUCH valuable time away from doing what they do best – being realtors!
The answer!
We built a brand new website and integrated it with a custom software that transforms a basic website into a hands-free, thought-free constantly-updating machine!
Now their website features their current and recent listings without them having to manually enter data! It also provides a system for taking in leads and helps with customer relationship management. Go check it out! And excuse our little dance party!
