🎓 Mustang Milestones: Celebrating Some of Natalia’s Class of 2025
We're celebrating the stories that matter and the good things happening in Medina County, just in a new way at least for now. Though we hit pause on printing the second issue of Medina Magazine, the stories we created are too good not to share.
So instead of shelving them, we’re bringing them directly to you — as a digital series powered by Marken Media Co. Over the coming days, we’ll highlight the local organizations, people, and places that make Medina County special — the same way we always planned, but now with even more ways to connect, comment, and share.
This is our way of honoring the incredible work our local writers and contributors poured into these stories and continuing to spotlight the good happening right here in our community.

Anaya Jones: A Legacy of Leadership
After 13 years at Natalia ISD, this Mustang is leaving behind a legacy of achievement and leadership. A standout athlete, she helped lead her volleyball team to become Bi-District Champions for the first time since 2007, while also reaching personal milestones of 1,000 career kills and digs. Her athletic journey also included basketball, softball, track, and golf, alongside leadership roles in clubs like HOSA, FCA, and SALT.
In addition to her success on the court and in the classroom, Anaya served as Class President and team captain, earning recognition in NHS and NTHS.
Balancing academics, athletics, and the uncertainties of the future wasn’t always easy, but her resilience and determination were fueled by the guidance of her aunt, Coach Tara Cortinas.
After graduation, she plans to attend the University of Oklahoma to pursue her dream of becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
“Be authentic and concentrate on what matters most to you. Create and strive toward your own goals, regardless of how overwhelming high school may seem. High school passes by quickly, so cherish every moment.”

Rubiana Juarez: Turning Challenges into Opportunities
From Pre-K to senior year, this Natalia ISD student has embraced every opportunity, from athletics to healthcare education. After a knee injury shifted Rubiana’s athletic path, she found a new passion in healthcare—and discovered a love for photography.
As Vice President of Community Services for HOSA, one of her most unforgettable moments was working with a cadaver, solidifying her desire to pursue a medical career.
With her EKG certification in hand, she plans to work while earning further certifications in Phlebotomy and CCMA. She’s set to enroll in St. Philip’s College to pursue her dream of becoming a Pediatric Traveling Registered Nurse.
Rubiana credits her teachers, especially Mrs. Feltner, Mr. Ferris, and Mr. Denny, for helping her find her path. But above all, she says her biggest inspiration and support have come from her parents.
“Take full advantage of every opportunity that comes your way, especially dual credit classes. Set yourself up for success by exploring what’s available to you now, and your future self will thank you for it.”

Adam Terrazas Jr.: A Passion for Leadership and Livestock
From Pre-K to his final year at NHS, this Mustang has truly made the most of his time. While he participated in sports and stock shows, one of his proudest achievements was representing Natalia at Texas Boys State, a prestigious educational program for future leaders.
His dedication paid off when he won Breed Champion with his lamb at MCJLS, a major milestone in his journey. Balancing college courses, athletics, and extracurriculars wasn’t always easy, but he says the experience taught him time management skills that will last a lifetime.
After graduation, he plans to help manage his family’s business, applying the skills he’s gained along the way. As he looks forward to the future, he remains grateful for the support of his parents and the memories he made at Natalia ISD.
“Don’t be afraid to try new things. You never know what you might find a passion for. Sometimes it’s a class, a sport, or an activity. Give it a shot—you might discover something amazing about yourself.”

Denton Nelson: A Mustang Through and Through
For the past 15 years, Natalia ISD has been more than just a school—it’s been home. From early morning cross-country practices to late-night band rehearsals, Denton threw himself into everything, from football and baseball to FFA, robotics, and more.
One of his best memories is his first football game as a Mustang—feeling the energy, the pride of wearing the jersey, and the unwavering community spirit. But senior year brought an ACL tear that sidelined his sports dreams. Instead of letting it hold him back, he leaned on his Mustang family for support and found new ways to stay involved.
With the guidance of his mentor, Mr. Clarke, he earned the Texas Lonestar Degree and discovered new opportunities. Now, he’s heading to UTSA to pursue civil engineering, with dreams of literally building the future.
“No matter how tough it gets, lean on your Mustang family, push your limits, and never stop chasing your dreams—because once a Mustang, always a Mustang.”
Editor’s Note: These standout seniors were nominated for feature by Principal Fernando Torres.
